To collect data from Twitter, you need to purchase Twitter’s Basic (10k tweets/month) or Pro API plan (1M tweets/month), subject to the limit allowed by Twitter for the specific plan you have purchased. This is in addition to creating your own Twitter’s developer account.
A “bearer token” is a randomly generated set of characters and numbers you will need to retrieve from your developer’s account on Twitter. This token will allow Communalytic to send secure requests to Twitter API on your behalf when collecting publicly available tweets from Twitter.
To retrieve this token, please follow the steps below:
Step 1: Apply for a developer account.
Step 2: Create a new Project by clicking “New Project” in your developer’s Dashboard or the Projects & Apps page. This option is only visible if you don’t have a Project already.
Note: Once the project is created, this is where you can keep an eye on your monthly usage of Twitter’s API.
Step 3: Click on the Project name you created in the Dashboard and create a new App. This app will need to generate a “bearer token” for Communalytic.
Step 4: Select the App you just created and then click on the Key and Tokens section to generate a new “bearer token”.
Step 5: Copy your “bearer token” generated and save it under the My Profile section in Communalytic, as shown below.
